No hunting with drones!

http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2015/03/oregon_house_unanimous_hunting.html

"SALEM -- Lawmakers in the state House voted unanimously Wednesday to outlaw the use of drones for hunting or fishing in Oregon.
Though there's no evidence that Oregon hunters or anglers have been using drones, the bill's proponents said it's happened elsewhere.
'Drones have no place in sport hunting, fishing or trapping," said Rep. Brad Witt, a Democrat from Clatskanie who sponsored the bill. "They are simply antithetical to the principle of fair chase and fair catch.'"

I  never knew this was a problem.  If legislators are going to spend their days thinking up what NOT to do with drones, they are going to be very busy.

hybrid quadcopter can fly 100 miles?

http://www.technologyreview.com/news/535951/hybrid-power-could-help-drone-delivery-take-off/

"A new hybrid gas-electric aircraft could make drone delivery more practical. Developed by a startup called Top Flight Technologies, the six-rotor drone can fly for more than two-and-a-half hours—or 160 kilometers—carrying a payload weighing nine kilograms."

we can all dream.

The drone landed near a delivery man riding a bicycle.

No one was injured. It's not yet known who the drone belongs to."

Look, people. Don't fly over strangers, ok?

$60 starter, with camera!

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/digital-home/3601308/lishitoys-l6039-quadcopter-review/

"We had a few successful flights in a local park using the low-speed mode. There’s also a high-speed mode you can toggle via the remote, but before we had a chance to test that and get some more footage, the L6039 appeared to lose connection with the controller and flew off. And that was the last we saw of it. Most likely it was due to the transmitter batteries running flat, desite the LCD panel showing a 'full battery' icon.
Overall, aside from the flyaway incident, the L6039 is a good-value starter quadcopter, and also one of the cheapest with an on-board camera. Video quality is understandably mediocre, but you have to pay a lot more to get good HD footage."

waterproof quadcopter

http://www.popsci.com/splashdrone-waterproof-alternative-screaming-about-drowned-quadcopter

"Boasting a 17-minute flight time and a top speed of 25mph, Splashdrone is a quadcopter with a watertight gasket and an injection-molded waterproof frame. Piloted by either remote control or smartphone app, it can carry a waterproof camera below its belly and film dramatic continuous shots from under the water and into the sky--like a Wes Anderson film, if he spent his time listening to Dick Dale and filming surfer videos."

I'm not sure this is really needed, but I can see the fun of having a GoPro dangling below this thing underwater, then taking off and flying around. That would make a cool video.

Of course, all that protection adds weight. Still better than my 4 whirling blades of doom.
